Nathan’s Coffee Station Has a Theme. The Labels Say ‘Here I Stand — And Drink.’

Nathan Briggs submitted a supplementary coffee station branding proposal to the Reformation Day planning committee on Tuesday, proposing that the October 31st coffee station operate under the name “Reformation Roast” with custom label designs applied to serving equipment and signage. Nathan presented three label mockups. All three feature a stylized portrait of Martin Luther, a coffee bean, and the phrase “Here I Stand — And Drink.”

The committee reviewed the mockups. Elder Hoffstead, who was present, examined each one for a period that sources describe as approximately eight seconds per mockup. He then described them collectively as “creative.” Elder Langley said they were “fun.” Nathan interpreted both responses as approvals. The minutes reflect that the branding proposal was “received favorably.” Brandon Keyes asked whether the label designs had been reviewed for theological accuracy before presentation. Nathan said it was a coffee label. Brandon said that didn’t answer the question. Nathan said he’d consider it reviewed. Brandon has submitted a written follow-up to the committee.

The physical labels are currently on order from a commercial print vendor. Nathan confirmed they were ordered to his exact specifications and that he expects delivery by October 23rd. He also confirmed that “Here I Stand — And Drink” is, in his view, both historically resonant and appropriately practical, and that he is aware Luther did not say the second half. Nathan considers this the joke. He does not require validation of the joke.

The Sola Showdown trivia event, meanwhile, has reached what Brandon described to this reporter as “a mature question set.” He submitted forty-seven questions to the session for review on Monday. The session has not yet responded to the question set. Brandon confirmed that forty-seven questions represents a “full first round, a second round, and a tiebreaker bank.” The planning committee requested clarification on how long the Sola Showdown is expected to run. Brandon said it was “scalable depending on engagement.” The committee has requested a maximum runtime. Brandon is working on one.

The fellowship hall renovation — which entered Phase 1 in September and has not been publicly discussed for approximately three weeks — remains on schedule according to Elder Langley, who confirmed the flooring work is proceeding and that the coffee station area is “taking shape.” Nathan Briggs, reached for comment, said he was pleased and that the shape was “consistent with the specifications.”

AT PRESS TIME: Brandon’s written follow-up to the committee about the theological accuracy of the coffee labels had been received and acknowledged. The acknowledgment did not address the substance of the follow-up. Brandon has indicated he will follow up on the follow-up.

DEVELOPING: The session will review Brandon’s forty-seven Sola Showdown questions at Tuesday’s meeting. Elder Hoffstead has set aside time for the review. He has described the time allotted as “adequate.” Brandon was informed of this. He submitted three additional questions on Thursday “in case there are gaps in coverage.”
